When should I tell them?
I'm taking a day's holiday the day before Christmas Break begins, and I've just noticed our crack secretarial staff hasn't put it on the schedule (all the other day's holiday have already been added to the schedule). I'm going to tell them, it's just a matter of when. The week before? The beginning of that week? I still have the written confirmation that would absolve me of any wrongdoing.
Someone just doesn’t get it
I clued Smileroid in on this due to the fact that he has a similar situation, and he then decided to attempt to play their game too. However, he’s lacking common sense.
He went to Young Secretary and ASKED HER to move one of his classes back an hour so that he’d get paid ‘driving time’! How daft can a person be? She then told him that she couldn’t do that, and he told her he wanted the extra money. She refused, she told Bossman that he had been insisting on it and then BM had a word with him about it.
When he relayed what had gone on to me, I told him that he had approached it in the wrong way. He should have convinced the student that she wanted to move her lesson back an hour and then gone into the office and told them that the student had requested a time change and they wouldn’t have even known what was going on.
You can’t play their game if you’re not smarter than them (which really isn't that difficult to be).
YAY!
The Christmas Do has been cancelled! It has been common knowledge that Bossman didn't want to have one, so he found a reason not to have one and cancelled it! After last year's Do, I'm over the moon about this news.
Always good news?
I walked into the office yesterday in a happy mood after a great class and told Bossman about it (New Girl was also there). The conversation continued like this:
MrT: ‘If you remember correctly, I didn’t want that class. Now I’m not giving it up.’
BM: ‘Good, because you can’t.’
MrT: ‘I don’t want to. I’m just giving you some good news. We could use some of that around here.’
BM: ‘What do you mean? All the news we have here is good.’
MrT: ‘Obviously you’re delusional.’
New Girl burst out laughing.
Annoyed
I just happen to come across a Post-it note on Young Secretary’s desk yesterday with my name on it that said, ‘Saturday’ and ‘Lesson Plans’. I looked at her and asked her if I was on her ‘Hit list’, to which she replied, ‘What do you mean?’ I asked the same question again and Bossman came over and said, ‘Oh! It’s my hit list,’ to which I asked him for further information since it dealt with me. He said, ‘Don’t worry about it, it’s nothing important’ and he took it and threw it out.
I’ve worked here for quite a few year and know BM’s handwriting. This wasn’t his. Apparently Pompous Ponce had gone through my files (as part of his new ‘responsibilities’) and decided that my lesson plans were not good enough, so he left the Post-it note for BM because either:
1. Bossman had told him to let BM handle things that PP feels I need improvement on;
2. Pompous Ponce was too much of a coward to approach me himself.
(the Saturday part was probably about having me work this Saturday instead of PP).
Unfortunately, I can’t say anything to BM about it at this time because I need to use him for something in the next four weeks (payback time), however I will be having a few words with him and Bosswoman about just before Christmas break.
New Class
We had a new class start on Saturday that will be meeting twice a week. At a normal school, the second day would have been worked out in advance by the administrative staff and the teacher would have been selected. Not at my school.
WhingeBag and Smileroid are sharing the Saturday bit, but the way that the second day of the week was determined was on Saturday by Young Secretary going into the class and asking the students which other day and time is best for them.
After that, she sent me an email (on a Saturday!) asking me if I’d teach it late on Monday evenings (she emailed me because my mobile was off ON MY DAY OFF!). I replied to her email saying that I couldn’t, as I start at 7h30 on Mondays and Tuesdays, and finish very late on Tuesdays, and reminded her that the late Monday class I had last year became the late Tuesday class I have this year (the day was changed for my convenience). I went into work yesterday and found out that Clown had been given the late Monday class.
I was chatting with Bossman this morning and told him about the situation, and also why I didn’t want to do the class (but would substitute when needed). He told me that he completely understood, but didn’t like the result of who got the class and would be talking to YS about it today.
Organisation at its best.
Conversation
MrT: 'Hi'
Bossman: 'Hi. How are you?'
MrT: 'I have a cold.'
BM: 'Now's not a good time to get a cold.'
MrT: 'You should have told me that a few days ago before I got it.'
